Devil in disguise

Every once and a while Billy Graham likes to take on the big serious questions. Like what Satan looks like... *sigh* Is this for real?
QUESTION: What does the devil look like? I know he’s often pictured in a red suit with horns and a pitchfork and all that, but if he actually appeared to us I’m not sure we’d recognize him. What do you think? — Mrs. J.Y.
JY wants to know what the devil looks like. I wonder why she didn't just ask an atheist. After all, we're obviously all card carrying followers of the dark lord. Okay, I'll let you in on a secret. He's what Satan looks like... Picture someone in a slick dark suit, but take away the suit... and he's also invisible. There you go! The devil looks like nothing, because he doesn't freaking exist!
ANSWER: For centuries, people have tried to picture what Satan must look like, and I find it interesting that he’s almost always portrayed as something repulsive, evil and violent. Anything that pictures him as cute or harmless is misleading – for he’s anything but that.
It is interesting that Satan is pictured as repulsive, evil and violent. Odd even, because those traits sound like they fit the genocidal sadist that is the god of the Bible far better than they fit the devil. Call me crazy, but the guy that only kills 10 people in the Bible doesn't seem as bad as the guy who kills everyone, by comparison.
In reality, however, the Bible doesn’t tell us what Satan looks like – and with good reason, for he’s not limited to any physical form or image. Instead, Satan is a powerful spiritual force that pervades the whole creation, far greater than any person or beast or other creature. He is not as powerful as God, nor is he eternal like God; someday his power will come to an end. But don’t limit him to the mental image you may have of a pitchfork-carrying person in a red suit.
He's not as powerful as God, not eternal like God, is messing up everything, yet God just sits back and does nothing about it? Talk about terrible management! God is either inept, or gets off on watching suffering. Neither is a glowing review by any stretch...
At the same time, the Bible indicates that at times Satan and his demons may take on human form. In his attempts to deceive us, the Bible says, he may even seem like a messenger from God: “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). If our lives are built on Christ and His Word, however, we will not be deceived.
Satan will masquerade as an angel of light? News flash Billy! Lucifer literally means 'light bearer'. Did you consider the possibility that maybe he's not pretending to be an angel of light? Maybe he actually is one.

Satan can take human form and can appear to be a messenger of God? Wait! What if Satan was Jesus! Think about it... He is supposedly messing with all God's plans. But what if the Jews had it right? Satan pretends to be the son of God to lead people away from Judaism. By worshiping Jesus/Satan, they are worshiping a false god. Doing so put's them on God's bad side and wins them a ticket to Hell. Maybe it's not even God's Bible, but Satan's. Now that would be a good con, and exactly the kind Christians would have you believe Satan is capable of. Seriously, do these guys even consider the possible implication of their own arguments?

  1. Brian, when you have created a universe, communicated with man in Word, and can do something about guilt for everyone, then you can make your own comments on truth. The god of this world (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Cr 4:4
But that very God does love you and will remove the guilt of your rebellion and arrogance the moment you do believe.

    1. Maybe you have been made blind by Set since you are unable to see the light of the great Horus. I mean, if we're going to be playing silly claim games that prove nothing, why not...

Also, maybe you can't comment since you haven't created a universe either. That claim is really quite silly. It doesn't take limitless power and knowledge to acknowledge that the god of the Bible is quite the moral monster. Just honestly reading the book instead of assuming it's all butterflies and rainbows. Please tell me in what context it is moral to command your followers to bash babies against rocks?

All that aside, the most important thing is that there's no proof that the Bible is true. And maybe that's good since the God in the Bible is nowhere close to the all-loving deity believers would have you believe he is.

  2. Brian you make a great point in an interesting meme. But its not anything you discovered first. Nor i, though I moved past the theory with reason and fact at maybe 7yrs old? But I was a FT student at University at 16 emancipated and legally responsible for myself already for two years. Always ahead of the class...way ahead... It's simple... Christ is come. He is risen. And He is the way the truth and the light to God. Lucifer did not portray Jesus around 33AD maybe Hercules . But lucifer does now. All the churches are deceived and worship lucifer. But there are those in those churches who are part of the true church of God and are just where God wants them to be, and many know they should not claim their religion but that would mean admitting to everyone they were fooled and they have to much pride to admit they were deceived and they really don't know if there is a true church out there anyways, but sloth keeps them from trying the other ones out. You are right the jesus people believe in today is a false angel cast down. They trust other side to interpret the words of bible. They don't learn any other subjects like pholosphy, history, science and can not cast out demons or raise the dead or pick up poisonous snakes and ingest poison and not be harmed. They let others do the baptizing and gospelizing for them. They pay others to feed the poor and visit the prisoners for them. They say they love everyone and then cheer on Trump to build a wall to keep the needy out or cheer Obama to give fags equal rights. These are the Christ IAN s today.

    1. So what if you were top of your class in school? So was I. But I'm not about to claim my valedictorian status as reason to say that you should just believe what I say 'because I'm smart' as I assume you are trying to say here. The simple fact is that is an appeal to intellect/argument from authority fallacy. You and I may be book smart, but those smarts don't necessarily carry on into other areas.

Lets take the rest that you have stated as fact here are no more than claims. Claims yet to be proven. It is easy to say that Christ is risen, and to say that he it the truth and the light. But to prove that is another thing entirely.

It is true that many religious people really don't know their religion (or other topics) well. But many think that they DO know their religion despite outsiders being able to tell they don't. But what makes you any different. Isn't it also possible that you have it wrong two? That some other interpretation is true, or that they are all wrong? Or are we supposed to say, "He/she blew his/her class way at math and social studies. Guess we should just believe him/her."? But that would be a fallacy, maybe you picked up trigonometry quicker, but does that mean you can rebuild a carburetor or solve a great philosophical mystery? The answer is no, not necessarily.

And yes, there are many in my country that are very hypocritical believers. They say Jesus is about love and then gush Trump's praises when he spouts hate for immigrants and Muslims. But then you are a bit in the same camp as the Trump followers since it sounds like you are against homosexuals having equal rights. Classifying a group as lesser people isn't exactly Christ-like either. And remember, church and government are legally separate in the USA, so gay rights doesn't impact one's religious rights in the slightest.

  3. I do hate to use the name Jesus because it's related to Zeus and that fake story pre Bethlehem virgin birth of Our Lord. But I have to use it sometimes because that's how the Lord is known today and I have to gauge the person I am speaking with some educational and knowledge base. In my heart is His true name. I could use Yashua or yah or Messiah but favorite is Our Redeemer. The one promised to Adam and Eve. God told eve don't worry your seed will crush the servants head but the sperant will bruise his heel. He couldn't really tell her their was an entity in the servant that was a former angel who at one time said I will do anything for you God! I will face death and a black hole of nothingness to serve you! And lucifer is doing just that. To serve a purpose. He is to deluded to see that.

    1. Isn't is a great irony that your average atheist will know the older names for Christ, but your average everyday American Christian won't? I'm not sure where you are from, but I would guess it is the same there.

As for the Lucifer claims... Easy to say, harder to prove.

I also think there is a much easier explanation for why you are having issues. Maybe you also have slow internet that is sometimes unreliable. But the bigger issue may be one you stated yourself. Length. Blogger/google does have a set limit on how long they allow replies to be. Christian message boards most likely have the same limits as well.

  5. Well eve musta thought Cain was the seed God had told her would make things right and return them all to paradise. And Cain was raised believing it to the point where when he saw somehow that God favored his brother more he killed them. But that's what God wanted to put the in the story the first good shepard story who was killed and it pointed to calvary. Take the promise made Abraham that from his seed would come a great nation countless as the sand and from them would emerge a man who would bless all nations and from there that nation would be mingled until the conclusion of this chapter of mankind outside the Garden Paradise of Eden. And that what happen in 33AD and in an effort of lucifer realizing he had played right into God's hand to wipe out the words written about Christ. Feeding The Christ's apostles to lion in the arena, chopping of heads for being accused of heresy and being sent gulag for having a copy of one of the books. All nations have been blessed and made happy and given hope and confidence through this. And even the false doctrines in an effort to confuse and mislead the masses is only spreading it further to take fear from those children scared of the dark and to those soldiers in the battlefeild.

  6. And yes Brain even thru you God will do a work. I just happened to find your site hereally looking for a depiction of lucifer talking to God to make a meme to help those in my circle understand the book of job when lucifer tells God that He is certain he can make Job reject God but he can't because of the hedge of Angels around Job. And the reason is Brian that are paths have crossed is because God loves you so much. Because you have caught his attention being so intelligent and logical and determined to free others from propaganda and misinformation because you love them and hate to see them living a lie. Just like God Brian you are creative and artistic and God loves that you haven't suppressed the talents he gave you. You are helping in the harvest of souls that will weed out the wheat from the tares.

As for this blog, you are correct in one thing. I do desire plant a seed to free some from propaganda and misinformation. I hate to see ignorance in the world, whether it be willingly ignorant or not. I at least want people to have the pertinent information (whatever the subject) and then do with this knowledge as they will.

And just as I would like to see less ignorance in the world, and that goes for me too. That's why I read every comment I get, and respond. If I am wrong or mistaken, I would like to know.

As for the story of Job, no need to recount it as I've already read it. A story that doesn't make God look particularly good if I might add.

  7. Now God has a greater plan for you Brian. To blow all your fans away and say I got baptized and I accepted the gift of salvation of God from this mess of free will and I am serving God. You have been waiting to meet your match and find a person who is as logical and scientific as you. To help you open your blind eyes. My given name is Marco, by trade I am Nurse. I have been graphic designer, a tattoo artist, a criminal, a speaker in a false church. I don't have all the answers but I am inviting you join the true church of God that has no address or name and wherever two or three gather in the name of His beloved son Christ who was crucified there God is. You are now in the church of right here right now and I have already invoked the Lords presence. If want the undeniable proof and power that God exists all you have to do is agree to meet me at any river you want and will drive there and baptize you like no other church does today if ready to confess all those things you feel guilty and ashamed of and want peace from all the regrets and pain you see in the world you can have it! You would be the second person I baptized.

    ReplyDelete

    1. But Marco, I was baptized. I was a Christian for years and years before I left the church. My parents sent me to Bible school after school. And for a long time I believed it all. But the more I learned, I slowly believed less and less.

I do not state my past belief to claim to be an expert. Rather to dispel the notion that some have that I must not believe because 'you never tried to believe'. Oh, but I did believe.

And yes, you are correct. I am waiting for someone to 'set me straight' so to speak. First and foremost, I want to know the truth. If that means that I am right or wrong isn't important. The truth is. If something as big as a particular religion were to be true, I would want to know. The implications would be huge. Sure, I might be embarrassed, but I would learn something big. We have all thought were were right about something in the past only to find we were mistaken. No good comes of pretending we were never wrong. And real growth comes from admitting our faults.

Also, you have had a few interesting jobs, but I'm sure you find being a nurse quite fulfilling. It can be a lot of sometimes thankless work, but at the end of the day, you help make people feel better and maybe even save their life.

  8. Because ask yourself if it's true and God is real then on this earth today there is only going to be a handful of God chosen. One or two or three or seven or eight. The person that God sends to you is not going to have a church or a bunch of folllwers. Or have baptized a bunch of people. And your first baptism was not your real one. Now so so wish I could give you the proof you need before that and then you would believe but you have to take that step of faith first one time. And Brian my brother oh great things are in store for you! I get chills just thinking about it. I had been asked so many times before to baptize and I was to much of ashamed sinner to do it. I would send them to the church of my youth and later to any church and later on to word alone and then I finally knew I had to baptize if asked again and the only advice I could give that person for what to do afterwards is spread that gospel as you know it understand it to everyone and cast out demons and raise the dead and baptize others keeping the commandments and statues. But I was afraid still on the banK of the river. I had doubts the doubts we all have is this right and I had long before been proven God is real so my doubts were is this what wants me to do am I mocking him to do it this way I had never heard or been taught but learned thru the word? All the way there is wanted to turn back. A snow storm hit and at the base of the sawtooth to go on could be fatal. My passenger the one who wanted to baptized and the one I had said yes slept soundly. I put chains on and kept going to the place I new the river was warm. The storm stopped and all the forest was so unnaturally silent for even river could not be heard...

    1. How many people God would have working for him is a bit of a question that has no simple answer. It would depend on the nature of that god. A deistic god would probably have none. The god as depicted in the Bible actually strikes me as someone who would require many singing his praises.

And it is easy to say that my first baptism wasn't real. But other sects will say that your baptism wasn't real either.

You can claim that your baptism will show me the truth. But I thought my first baptism did that. I believed in the Catholic church, its teaching, and authority. This is a church you are saying is false, but it had the same effect you are offering. So the human emotional response that one may or may not have to such experience can't be not be what would be considered scientific proof.

And in the name of the father and son is asked that their spirit of truth come upon this person and said immerse yourself completely under water the (water that came out of the mountain a few miles up) now and leave the old behind and arise new knowing you are saved. As soon as the person came up a the silence was broken and I heard a sparrows music like it was in my ear or had sang inches over our heads that I didn't believe it. I hugged this person and was thanked and I asked did you here that bird? Yes...under water. Was that the sign in had ask wondered. Just a part of it God had something greater in store. All along the banks of the river and the road home thousands of elk and dear and animals watched us. Thousands. For miles. You're just in shock at that point when something happens like this no man or fallen Angel or Illuminati plan from Egypt can do. Don't think why haven't I heard about you? Everybody would know about you. Well you don't think the truth would make the news do you? That happened once-in-a-lifetime of earth in those days before and after calvary. People saw Michael transformed and calm storms and raise the dead and believed and some didnt. 1. Actually, I do think that you would have made at least some press if those claims were true. We live in a world were there is a show for just about everything. So I would expect some corner of the internet to have documented your claims. Perhaps you could provide a link if one has.

To my mind, what you have offered are just claims. Claims I would need proof of to believe, let alone think they prove anything divine.

Then you have to expel rational explanations. Snake handlers can have a surprising bond with their serpents. What was the dosage of the poison? Was there medical intervention? You would have to prove to me that demons are real before telling me you've exorcised them. Bringing the dead to life would also require quite impressive proof unless you are talking about bringing someone back on the job with an AED.

Magic shows and dark magic? There isn't even any magic there. It's all illusion.

  13. PS::: Brian, I am sorry you have missed the signs of God's existance. It's unfortunate you had not been born is North Korea today or in one of the 150countries around the word today where the bible is illegal in some form. You would have ate all those words up if you had been. Sure it incomplete the bible. Jasher, Enoch, Samuels book of rules for Isreals Kings, and jubilee make 70 books and God likes sevens and seventy. You can go see Noah's Ark at Noah's Boat National Park in Turkey. Ur of the chaldees is still iraq, pieces of Babylon still exist, giant human skeletons are found everyday, evidence of a flood when fossilized fish are found above 10k elevation. The Pyramids still stand and if ceaser arose today he would think Rome still ruled as prophecies by Daniel from nebecanzer dream the legs of iron. 666 on every barcode, www=666, 911=9×1x1=666 upside down, the wailing wall in jerusalem, knowledge has increased, there now stands a country with 200,000,000 men. What secret society could do all this without a immortal clairvoyant being? There are those who serve good and those who serve evil. It's that simple. Deep in the valley of the Pacific in the old eden guarded by an angel and water the sword that turns every which way is a tree of immortality. Bet on it.

    1. I haven't missed any proofs here.

The supposed Ark has never been proven to be the Biblical Ark. Then again, that whole story is fraught with crippling problems.

Ur is in the Bible, but New York is in Spider-Man. That doesn't point to the web slinger to be real.

      Babylon... the same as above.

Giant human skeletons: Are you talking about the hoaxes of the huge human-looking skeletons supposedly being found. Or are you simply confusing the different sizes of our evolutionary ancestors?

Flood evidence: Well, there isn't any. And thinking fossil fish in high elevations only proves an ignorance of the rational scientific explanation. Ever hear of plate tectonics?

Pyramids: They actually quite harm the flood story since the Egyptians didn't seem to notice a global flood and kept on living there continuously before, during and after the supposed flood.

666 is not in every barcode. I just checked a load of them in my house and am struggling to find any that have 999, 666, xxx, or 911 in them. And how does 9x1x1=666 upside down. That doesn't equal 999, it just equals 9.

Wailing wall: Again, it doesn't prove anything.

      Knowledge: Also not proof.

Countries with large populations: Again, not proof.

Clairvoyant secret society? Sorry, but I don't see anything here that requires any particularly special insight.

Don't you also think that the 'you either serve good or evil is rather starkly binary? That is the same with us or against us mentality that only generates conflict by ignoring the many shades of gray that exist.

Eden under the ocean: Prove it and I will be amazed. Until, the lack of evidence will leave me skeptical.

What truth should people follow. But consider this, in the next few generations we are going to see a universal implatable identity, and a race that has no books so Google is going to rewrite the history we know today. take out every last relic they can and are doing it and then the bible will seem like Harry potter. And old men like you and I will be no no no. People like the Mormons did it in one generation. You are correct that God just isn't going to let me do whatever I want. He is not all love love love There a commandments I must keep and was in must strive to follow and if tomorrow i fall i get up. Don't do lucifers work of making the bible seem dumb. He would've given you fame and riches to do what you do now on this page and maybe you have signed his contract already well call me, pick a river and break it.

    1. The meme poses a question of if everything is really as it seems to the believer from his or her perspective. It is a call for introspection. Yes, you can say other religions are lies, or that Lucifer created them. But what about the religions that predate the Bible? What if the Bible is a trick by one of the Hindu gods?

To question if something is true, I don't have to propose an alternative. Though I feel the stance that there are no true religions is an alternative. One that can free you to examine things more honestly. I know that I have been able to truly examine what I believe on many fronts since leaving religion. Before there were limits... guidelines that made me fear asking 'do I really hate gays, or am I just following what my church says?' To embrace life as short and singular has led me to appreciate this life oh so much more.

My moral compass: I have entire blogs on here about that. But one short answer is empathy.

Google is not the internet. It is only a tool to find your way around the internet. And books (in one form or another) are going nowhere. Authors still wright. The medium may change, but voices will still be spoken. And if anything, new technology has only made it easier to get your word out.

The Bible already seems like a work of fiction to those of us that don't believe it.

Fame and riches? Hardly. By online standards very few people read my pages, especially since I stopped writing new content due to time and life.

And if I can't be a atheist and do Lucifer's work, then I guess I'm not doing his work since I certainly am an atheist.

    2. Let me also add that I will admit that I am apprehensive to accept your offer for a few reasons.

      1) It wouldn't provide scientifically testable evidence. So at the very most I could be left with a 'feeling'.

      2) I can't afford to fly out to New Mexico all spur of the moment.

You may think that me being iffy about coming to meet you makes me in-genuine in my search for truth. And if I was afraid of being proven wrong you would have a point. It is true that the idea of having you baptize me does leave me with some fear though...

      3) After reading through everything I fear that my 'baptism' would possibly result in a drowning. It may be that you don't intend to come across this way, but towards the end of your posting especially, I don't feel as though I could trust you. You never know who anyone is on the internet, after-all. Again, you may not intend to come off in a way that leaves me wary and uneasy of meeting you. But I thought you should know.

  16. Brain, how do you explain the 8,362 predictive verses, 1,817 predictions on 737 separate matters which come true exactly as told? 2 Peter says "we have also a "more sure word of prophecy." For me, that is proof.

written down hundreds of years earlier, by multiple authors from different continents in different languages over 2,000 years...- he was to be of David's family, born of a virgin, in Bethlehem, he would sojourn in Egypt, live in Galilee, in Nazareth, to be announced by an Elijah-like herald, would occasion massacre of Bethlehem's children, would proclaim a Jubilee to the world, His mission would include Gentiles, ministry would be one of healing, he would teach in parables, would be disbelieved, rejected by Rulers, would make a triumphal entry into Jerusalem, would be betrayed by a friend for 30 pieces of silver (seriously, that is a very exact number!), would be like a smitten shepherd, would be given vinegar & gall, people would cast lots for His garments, his side would be pierced, not a bone would be broken, would die among malefactors, his dying words foretold, would be buried by a rich man, would rise from the dead, & his resurrection followed by destruction of Jerusalem....what are the scientific ODDS that ALL of these things about one person... Jesus, would come true? If only the odds of being born in Bethlehem at that time are 1:10 to the 5th power. If you study prophesy you cannot NOT believe. I am more sure of the fact that Jesus is who he says he is, than of my own existence. If you want to learn more, I have found the information on this site to be totally mind-blowing. The intro to Prophesy information is truly spectacular. I think you would love it. http://kistudy.khouse.org/study/course/12391

    1. Where to begin...

First, the 'prophecy' of Jesus being born where he supposedly was, or being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (etc) are actually completely unspectacular. Why is that? We'll for one, we don't actually have proof that any of what you posted transpired as claimed. We also don't even have proof of Jesus' existence. But there is also the fact of when these things were written, and by who. The later claims were written later by those that were aware of previous 'foretellings'. This reduces them to no more than literary continuity. Do one claims that Harry Potter exists because the earlier books make predictions that end up coming true in the books to follow. The reason for that is obvious, someone wrote a story, and it followed a storyline and a progression. Consider also that when the Bible was compiled, that books were rearranged, edited, and sometimes even left out so that they followed the desired narrative. That hardly sounds like a divine narrative, and more like every other book that gtoes to an editor.

Then there is you question of all the other 'prophecies' you throw numbers around for... and I have talked about this on blogs here and in the comments sections as well, but here we go again... Most of the claimed properties far in to one of these categories if not multiple:

It wasn't fulfilled: The Bible is actually ripe with prophesy that hasn't been fulfilled. This even includes some that believes claim were fulfilled. But an honest, closer examination shows that the claim was not true.

Literary progression: This is the one we talked about above. The claimed fulfillment was written about after the claim. But if the author is any good at all, we should expect that continuity to carry forward. Left without proof, these claims are to be expected, and not miraculous.

Huge stretch: Some claimed fulfillments are a huge stretch or require quite a bit of 'mental gymnastics' in order to try and force them into fitting.

Obvious: Some claims are also so obvious that that they are not worthy of marvel at all. Almost everyone has made obvious statements or claims that end up being true. But again, they were so obvious there's nothing magical going on there.

Too vague: There are also those that are far too vague to result in a result determination. Many a believer will twist these into filling with something else that could kind of fit. But the truth is that they could fit something else entirely unrelated just as well, or mean nothing at all. Again, I've made statements that fall into this category. If I were to look back and replay things could I claim that I predicted X, Y, or Z? Maybe, but that falls down to the same way horoscopes or fortune cookies are looked at as accurate as some. It comes down to selection bias, or counting the hits and ignoring the misses.

Many have come to me offering proof of prophesy that has come true and proves Jesus, but none were actually able to offer the proof they claimed to have. So far, this is no different...
